Championship Games at Wren High School

The Church Basketball for Christ Youth Basketball League is excited to announce that all Championship games will be played at Wren High School, with the 10 Boys and Girls playing in the Freshman gym and all other ages playing in the Varsity Gym. Below is the schedule of games:

Friday (Feb 19) at the Wren Freshman Gym
6pm - 10 Girls (Congrats to YMCA)
7pm - 10 Boys (Congrats to Georges Creek)

Friday (Feb 19) at Wren High School Varsity Gym (connected by a hallway to Freshman Gym)
8:15pm - 14 Boys (Congrats to Easley 1st)

Saturday (Feb 20) at Wren Varsity High School Gym
10am - 16 Boys (Congrats to Covenant)
11:15am - 18 Boys (Congrats to Easley Pres)
12:30pm - 12 Boys (Congrats to Covenant)
1:45pm - 18 Girls (Congrats to Covenant)
3:00pm - 15 Girls (Congrats to Covenant)
4:15pm - 12 Girls (Congrats to Rock Springs)

The only details left are to play the games.

Letter sent to all Church Directors

Well, Easley High School asked for a white out tonight for their game against Wren, I bet they never imagined this much white.

As a result of this snow event, the committee discussed several different scenarios, and spent many hours considering the options. We came to the conclusion that the best option is to move the Games to next weekend and allow the older teams the opportunity to play in the Easley High School gym. We had no way of ensuring the roads would be fine for games beginning at 12pm and then the logistics of operating two venues with referees, scorekeepers and effective communications with such short notice was daunting.

Our first choice would have been to play the games as they were scheduled, but this snow event has required the committee to make some hard decisions. We are asking Directors with teams in the finals to coordinate with their coaches and ensure the teams will be able to participate next weekend. If there are any conflicts that would impact a team from participating then we will consider moving the game from Easley High School to another venue during the week. Many of the students see the chance to play on the High School Court as the one reward and memory for a good season.

We ask that the Directors for each church involved in the Finals communicate to their coaches and respond to the committee with any concerns about participating next week by Sunday (Feb 14) at 3pm. We ask for your patience and understanding as we do our best to ensure an appropriate finish to a great season of church ball.

Change to Payment Guidelines for Referees for Playoffs

All teams age 10 and above have already paid for their first playoff games as part of their entry fee. We decided at the beginning of the season that teams would then pay for games as they advanced beyond the first round.

The committee faced many difficulties and concerns with implementing this effectively with the difference between some teams having a bye in the first round. We have decided the following:

All teams/coaches will pay the referees and scorekeepers for every playoff game. They will be required to pay one referee $20 and one scorekeeper $5 for each round.

The league will reimburse each church $20 for each playoff team.

This means starting tomorrow night all coaches must be prepared to pay a referee and a scorekeeper for each game they play.
